Access to NHR Systems & HPC Using Slurm at UdS
We cordially invite you to the hands-on workshop “Access to NHR Systems & HPC Using Slurm at UdS”, organized by Saarland University as part of NHR@SW.
The workshop will take place in person at Saarland University in Saarbrücken on October 8, 2026, from 13:00 to 17:00.
The exact room will be announced to registered participants by email.

High performance computing (HPC) provides researchers with access to computational resources far beyond those available on typical workstations. Within the NHR alliance, researchers can access HPC systems and resources at computing centers across Germany.
This workshop provides a practical introduction to accessing and using HPC systems within NHR@SW, with a particular focus on systems using Slurm as their workload manager.
During the workshop, participants will learn:
- What NHR and NHR@SW are and which HPC resources are available.
- How to apply for and access HPC resources.
- Basic concepts of working with HPC systems.
- How Slurm manages computational resources and jobs.
- How to request computational resources and submit jobs using Slurm.
- How to monitor and manage Slurm jobs.
- Good practices for using shared HPC resources.
The workshop will combine introductory material with hands-on exercises, allowing participants to practice working with Slurm directly.
The workshop is particularly suitable for researchers and students who are new to HPC, NHR systems, or Slurm, as well as Saarland University users interested in using NHR resources or transitioning to Slurm-managed systems.
Participants should bring their own laptop. Further information about the hands-on environment and any required setup will be provided to registered participants before the workshop.
Organizer: Jonas Korndörfer (jonas.korndorfer@cs.uni-saarland.de)
Participation is free of charge for attendees from German universities, academic computing centers, and research institutions. Please only register for the workshop if you are planning to attend.
